Proud Mommy Moment

So last night I was in Target with the twins buying their Valentine's Day presents. Yes, they were with me, but they're only two. Anyhoo...Deacon spotted an Emily train from the "Thomas & Friends" series. Emily is his favorite. He goes around asking to watch Emily daily. He LOVES Emily. Well, I let him hold Emily in Target to #1 avoid an immediate melt-down and #2 buy me some time to think of ways to get out of buying this $20 train. That's right, Emily costs $20. Now, I would not call myself cheap by nature but by necessity. Thus, a twenty-dollar Valentine's Day present is just not in the budget. Well, as we were walking around the store, Deacon begins to sing his own personal "Ode to Emily" song. I'm thinking, "Great, there is no way I'm gonna get out of this store without him throwing a fit." As Deacon sings, "Eeeemmmiillllyyy! My Eeeeemmmmiiillly!" there is a loud baby crying near-by.

Deacon stops singing and says, "Mommy, hear that baby crying?"

I say, "Yes, that baby is sad."

Deacon says, "I want to give that baby my Emily."

I say, "Are you sure? You want to give the baby your Emily?"

He says, "Yes."

So, I go and find the first baby I see, explain to the parents what we are doing, and watch my sweet boy hand over his most coveted, prized Emily to this baby he doesn't even know. He does it without crying, without wanting a take-back, or without any prompting by me. Deacon just gives it away!

What a testimony of God's love for us. He gave us his most prized, coveted, gift - his SON! Did it hurt just a bit to hand his son over to us, knowing full well what would happen 33 years down the road? SURE! But yet God sacrificed his ONLY SON that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish but have EVERLASTING life. Once God handed Jesus over did he ask for a "take-back" or regret his decision? Not in the least! What a great and glorious God we serve who loves us so much!

My prayer is that you be reminded this Valentine's Day how much you are loved! Every time I see an Emily train I will be reminded of God's love for me and for my precious little Deacon.

Jesus Loves You and Barney, too!

Sweet Deacon. He loves to sing. I love how he transitions from "Jesus Loves You" straight to the Barney song. At the end, he said "Love you!" back. I just adore this little guy. What I don't get on video is him saying "Good-night!" We usually sing these two songs in this order right before we go to bed. He is a creature of habit. Maybe one day he'll be a famous singer and we can show this video on his "Behind the Music" episode. It all started with "Jesus Loves You!" What a great testimony.

***Please continue to pray for our friend, Mary Ann. Since I posted on "Prayerful Mondays," they have taken her off of sedation, but she has still not awakened. Also, her kidneys are failing. We need a miracle! I believe OUR GOD IS A GOD OF MIRACLES. Please Lord, perform one on Mary Ann today!

1 Little Monkey Jumping on the Bed

On Tuesday, our Granny was watching the boys at the house while Ryan was at camp and I was working at the MDA office.  After the boys woke up from their nap, Granny was playing peek-a-boo with them.  Deacon was jumping up and down in his crib and well, confirmed why you should NEVER jump on your bed...

Exhibit A...

That's right folks, he bit his tongue! Well, I got home around 4:45, an hour after it happened, and it was still bleeding.  We gave him a popsicle and it stopped, but then he ate yogurt and it opened back up.  We wrapped a piece of ice in a rag and put it on the tongue and it stopped bleeding again just in time for us to meet a friend at McDonalds for a play date.  Deacon played and even ate a french fry (I know, ouch!).  Once we got home, we got the boys ready for bed and Deacon was drinking his nightly milk and yep, you guessed it, the tongue started bleeding again!  By this time, it was 5 hours after the incident, so we decided it was time to take him to the ER just in case he might need sutures.

The ER visit was fine.  Deacon acted PERFECT.  No stitches/sutures.  The doctor said unless it was bit in two, they don't usually do sutures for a tongue injury.  He prescribed more popsicles and an antibiotic (to ward off infection) and sent us on our way.

To add insult to injury, sometime that day Deacon got bit by some insect on his right eyelid.  I had to take him to the ER with a bloody tongue, swollen eye, and my MIL came so naturally he was screaming for her to hold him :).  Praise the LORD Lex was our Triage nurse or they might have called CPS on me.  :)

Here are some pictures to prove that our 4 hours in the ER were not all miserable.  Sorry for the size issue.  They are from my phone and I don't know how to make them bigger.

Let Summer Begin!

Yes, my friends, it's that time again. SUMMER! Here are my boys helping me fill the pool. Aren't they just the cutest pool boys, EVER?!
Deacon - filling the pool is serious business!
Rhett - check out that belly!
HAPPY SUMMER!

An OCD Revelation & Summer Fun

My sweet Rhett has acquired a few of his mommy's OCD tendencies. Case in point:

Do you notice anything strange about this picture?

That's right. My OCD child was separating his books by type. The keepers, he neatly stacked up high. The throw-aways, well, they were not treated so kindly.

I know you all have been sitting at the edge of your seat, waiting with such great anticipation on how short I cut my hair, right?
Well, here's the before...

And here's the after:

Sorry the hair is not all "done-up," but I took the after picture early in the morning before I had a chance to get ready. I just wanted to get the blogging done, ya know? I just couldn't keep you all in supense for any longer! :)

I leave you with this video of the boys and Jaz playing with our Elmo sprinkler. I love to hear them laugh and play. It brings such joy to my heart! Don't forget to mute the player at the bottom of the page.

Our Life in Pictures

Ryan's cousin Sue Anna gave us her wooden set that her son used for years. Some of the boards were warped and splitting, so Ryan (with a little help from his dad) decided to fix it up. They basically rebuilt the thing from top to bottom. The boys LOVE it. Here they are swinging the day away and climbing up to play on their fort. All that's left is to add a roof.

Poor Deacon got attacked by Jaz's new dog, Lilly. He was up on the couch looking at her saying, "Lilly! Lilly! Lilly!" She snapped at him and got him right on the nose. If you look closely you can see the teeth marks on the top. You can't see it, but it was also bleeding on the side of his nose. Poor guy. Now, he won't go near the little dogs at my in-laws' house. Hopefully this will pass. I don't want him to be afraid of dogs - especially since we have two.

Last weekend we went to Midland to visit Ryan's sister. Well, cousin Crue has some real boots and cowboy hat and Rhett fell in love with them both. Here he is strutting his stuff. Isn't he the cutest little cowboy ever?

My Sweet Deacon, Friend

So, last couple days, Deacon has really shown his heart for people. He loves everyone! He wants everyone to be his friend and in return wants to BE everyone's friend. Here are a couple of examples:
  1. Yesterday we were watching a video of a baby in NICU online. Deacon proceeded to point at the screen and said, "baby, baby, hurt baby, hurt." He then started to pretend to cry and said, "oh baby. oh gosh! baby!" I love it! Could we have a future nurse or doctor?
  2. Today we were at the park. A kid, about the boys' age, walk up to play. Deacon ran over to him and said, "Play! Play, mommy, play!" Pointing to the scared little boy. Maybe we have a future teacher?

Isn't it great to see the Lord's finger on your children, even when they are so young. I love watching our guys learn more words and about the world around them. I pray they both grow to be compassionate, LOVING, people who are a friend to all. These Deacon moments, warm my heart and make we fall in love with him all over again.

Deacon @ 18 months

At 18 months old, Deacon is my free spirit.  The moment he started walking, nothing could stand in his way.  He seems to be a righty and can run better than both his mommy and daddy combined.  He LOVES to play!!!  His favorite toys right now are any type of sports balls, his Handy Manny tool set, and Mega blocks.  I love his infectious laugh.  Deacon loves to sing.  I find him humming a tune and singing along with any kind of music (even Beyonce!).  Much like his mommy, he is shy around strangers.  But, like his daddy, he is a friend to all.

Make a Face

The boys and I have a game we play. Whenever Mommy says, "Make a face!" we all put on our silliest faces. Here is Deacon showing off for the camera. Notice how sad he gets when Mommy says, "bye, bye." Isn't he just precious! Oh, don't forget to pause the music player below so you can hear Deacon laugh and talk.

Maybe next time Rhett won't be so camera shy and we can get that little monkey to perform. Have a great week!
